Stories That Define Us
Community Voices
“As a sport focused on providing opportunities for Aall children to be their best, we want to ensure our volunteers have the knowledge and support to run an amazing club. The Sport4All resources give our volunteers easy-to-use guides to make simple changes, which lead to huge improvements - not only for disability inclusion but also in creating a more welcoming environment at Little Athletics clubs across the state.”
Christopher Davis
CEO, Little Athletics Queensland
“We’ve got kids coming from remote communities and the look on their faces – they’ve never seen so much ice before, never seen snow before! It’s the first time we’ve run the all-abilities sessions, and it’s amazing to see people in wheelchairs, for example, get a chance to play on the ice. It’s been super popular, not just for people with physical disabilities but also people who maybe need a bit more support or a quieter space.”
Nicole Battle
Community Development Director, Alice Springs Town Council
“People have the idea that it’s quite a big thing, a hard challenge to be inclusive in sport. They don’t quite know what the first steps are to being inclusive. Sport4All is breaking those barrier."
Gina Oliver
Teacher, Iona College - Geelong
“At the AFL we are always working to support individuals to love and connect with our game and feel a sense of belonging. A significant part of that involves supporting and training our development staff to be inclusive of everyone, regardless of their ability. Sport4All have really supported us to achieve this by delivering engaging and relatable training and education to our Game Development Officers, and this is something we want to continue long into the future.”
Marrianna Konidaris
Disability Inclusion and Indigenous Participation Lead, AFL NSW/ACT
“Our students were so grateful to take part in such an incredible event. All involved took so much away from engaging in this diverse range or activities and I believe they have a new found respect for wheelchair basketball! Thank you again for putting on such an incredible and community centred event. We would be eager to join again if there are any future events in the works.”
Brittany Crawford
Health & Physical Education Teacher
“We are very fortunate that we have been able to build connections with some of our clubs and schools, however we have lacked capacity and experience to focus on disability and had been very aware that this was a big gap. The value of being able to host a dedicated role supported by Get Skilled Access and the Sport4All resources has been very clear. We were fortunate to recruit Kylie (Sport4All Inclusion Coach) who is someone from the local community with established knowledge and networks, who is very experienced around disability and developing a sporting club for people with disabilities, and who is also very passionate about making a difference for the local community.”
