Wyndham City Council

This case study showcases Wyndham City Council’s commitment to creating an inclusive sporting environment for people with disability. Partnering with Sport4All, they hosted a successful “Inclusive Multi-Sport Fun Afternoon,” highlighting the power of collaboration in fostering meaningful participation and lasting impact within the community.

Challenge

Recognising its diverse population, with over 12.6% having disability, Wyndham City saw a golden opportunity to champion inclusivity in sports. While connections existed with local schools and clubs, the city lacked dedicated resources and expertise to fully address the needs of people with disability

This presented a compelling challenge, but also a chance to bridge the gap and create a vibrant, inclusive sporting landscape for all.

“We are very fortunate that we have been able to build connections with some of our clubs and schools, however we have lacked capacity and experience to focus on disability and had been very aware that this was a big gap. The value of being able to host a dedicated role supported by Get Skilled Access and the Sport4All resources has been very clear. We were fortunate to recruit Kylie (Sport4All Inclusion Coach) who is someone from the local community with established knowledge and networks, who is very experienced around disability and developing a sporting club for people with disabilities, and who is also very passionate about making a difference for the local community.”
