Why inclusion matters

Playing sport is not a privilege, it’s a right for every Australian, including the 5.5 million people (21.4%) living with disability.

Yet, 75% of Australians with disability want to take part in sport but feel limited by barriers to access and opportunity.

Local councils and sporting bodies play a pivotal role in changing this. By hiring a Sport4All Inclusion Coach, partners can create accessible programs, empower local clubs and schools, and embed long-term inclusion across their communities.

Sport4All is designed and delivered by people with disability and lived experience. Together, we’re helping councils, sporting organisations, and communities make inclusion a lived reality, not just an aspiration.

What does a Sport4All Inclusion Coach do?

A Sport4All Inclusion Coach is a person with disability or lived experience of disability who works within your organisation to guide, educate, and support inclusion at every level.

They help clubs and schools break barriers, deliver training, and create safe, accessible spaces for everyone – including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those in regional and remote areas.

FAQs

How much will I/ my team have to manage the Inclusion Coach?
S4A manage up to 90% of the ICs daily responsibilities and role. The Partner supports a connection to the team and the local community.
Sport4all is federally funded via the ASC and is able to support the cost of the role in community for up to 18 months allowing time to support the role independently.
As of March, 2025 – Sport4all has employed 24* ICs across the country since 2021 and is continuing to recruit (link to careers page?) more roles. Sport4All is a national program, but its unique strength is delivering in a localised way – through partnership with its local delivery partners. This means the IC coach will live, work and operate in the local community understanding and delivering on the local needs of each community.

“Inclusive sport matters to me because there is no I in team and everyone is included. Inclusive sport looks like one big happy family all together. I love sport because it keeps me fit and active, and I feel part of a team”
