Sport4All and Little Athletics SA Join Forces to Champion an Inclusive Athletics Community

Sport4All is proud to announce a formal partnership with Little Athletics SA. This collaboration demonstrates our shared commitment to increasing the inclusive culture and diversity of participants in the junior athletics community across South Australia.

“We are excited to be partnering with Little Athletics SA to support younger South Australians with a disability. Little Athletics is recognised as a sport for people with a disability and this partnership means we can work together to continue foster a love of sport from an early age” said Kelly Hamlyn, State Sport Inclusion Coach.

“We know that the peak age for children participating in athletics is 9 to 11 years of age and that the ratio of male to female athletes is almost 50/50. People with and without disability train and compete together. This provides a wonderfully inclusive setting which we don’t see very often. This is what I love about Little Athletics and why I am so excited to be working with Steve and his team.”

The cyclists wear helmets and racing gear, while the coaches are dressed in casual sports attire. The background features elements of a standard racing track, including lanes and markings. The award-winning Sport4All program aims to drive positive change in grassroots sport, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of sport when, where, and how they choose. “Little Athletics does a wonderful job of providing choice for its athletes. You are part of a club and training regularly; however, you can choose if you go to events and whether you go to events like PB Day’s which is only about competing with yourself, or to events where you compete against other athletes. There are not many sports where you can provide your child such space for personal growth without competitive pressure” Kelly Hamlyn said.

In South Australia nearly 74% of children aged under 15 participate in physical activity outside of school, with athletics being in the top 10 activities . Little Athletics has over 50 clubs with over 5,500 members across the state including regional areas with the mission ‘to lead and support the development of children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family, fun and fitness’.

Little Athletics SA has 5 core values: Be your best, Collaboration, Integrity, Progressive and Inclusivity. It is in pursuit of these values that Little Athletics SA has partnered with Sport4All, recognising that continuous improvement benefits all members of the Little Athletics community.

“Little Athletics SA is excited to team up with Sport4all for the 2024/25 season! We’re both passionate about creating a space where every child, no matter their ability, can enjoy sports. Together, we’ll work on building a community where all young athletes can thrive, learn, and have fun” said CEO Steve Baldas.

By working together Sport4All and Little Athletics SA are working towards a more inclusive future for South Australia’s junior athletes and their families.

“Inclusive sport matters to me because there is no I in team and everyone is included. Inclusive sport looks like one big happy family all together. I love sport because it keeps me fit and active, and I feel part of a team”
