Basketball SA Join Forces to Champion an Inclusive Basketball Community
Sport4All is proud to announce a formal partnership with Basketball SA. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in promoting inclusion and diversity in the basketball community across metropolitan and country South Australia.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Basketball SA to increase sports participation for the roughly 332,500 South Australians have a disability” Sport4All Sport Inclusion Coach Kelly Hamlyn said, “Basketball is accessible through clubs across the state, as well as through community and school venues where you can go to shoot hoops with mates. It’s the ability of Basketball to find a space for everyone to play, which makes this partnership really exciting.”
Sport4All is dedicated to promoting diversity and creating opportunities for people with disability in all aspects of sport. The award-winning program aims to drive positive change in grassroots sport, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of sport when, where, and how they choose.
Basketball is the 5th largest club sport in South Australia across all age groups, which demonstrates the sports strong community footprint. The Aussie Hoops program, 3×3, wheelchair basketball, and walking basketball are some of the basketball options for South Australians. There are 61 basketball clubs registered for the state sports voucher program which has just been increased to two vouchers per year reducing the financial barriers for young people with a disability to get involved with their local basketball community.
Basketball SA has partnered with Sport4All to promote the inclusion of people with disability in all aspects of basketball, focusing on increasing awareness, capability, and sustainability in the basketball community, making basketball accessible for everyone, regardless of ability.
Tim Brenton CEO of Basketball SA commented “Basketball South Australia are proud to partner with Sport4All to provide opportunities for people living with a disability. We are excited to have Kelly Hamlyn as part of our team to help us better understand and improve how people with a disability access and participate in the sport of basketball.”
“We’re really excited to partner with Basketball in South Australia through our Inclusion Coach state sport coordinator to build their staffs confidence and curiosity of disability across their business” Said program State Manager Jeremy O’Sullivan “Across Basketball SA’s team, they have demonstrated a real passion for this work, and we are excited to see what the future holds for the sport.”
By working together Sport4All and Basketball SA are working towards a more inclusive future for basketball and South Australians.
